How to lay & maintain our tiles the correct way...

Laying the Tiles
Do I need a specialist tiler?
The answer is no – antique ceramic tiles are laid the same way as modern tiles. However, a professional tiler is recommended for several reasons:
- They know the correct cements, grouts, and sealing methods for your tiles. We suggest using a mid-grey joint to keep the focus on the tile.
- We recommend Mapei and Lithofin for cements, grouts, and cleaning products.
- Antique tiles often have geometric patterns that must be aligned from the start. We recommend 2mm joints.
- Borders must be carefully planned, potentially requiring cutting for a seamless fit.
- Some tiles may have slight variances in width and thickness due to being handmade, which an experienced tiler can adjust for.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Ceramic Tiles
Our ceramic tiles are low-maintenance and almost impermeable. Regular washing is enough to keep them looking great. We recommend against waxing, as it can trap dirt over time and is difficult to remove.
Carreaux de Ciments
These tiles must be sealed to protect them from stains due to their porous nature. Wait until the adhesive is dry before sealing or waxing. Acidic cleaners should be avoided; use alkaline-based cleaners for stubborn stains. Products like FILAFOB and Lithofin sealants are recommended for protection, and HG GOLVPOLISH can add sheen.
Underfloor Heating
Ceramic tiles work well with underfloor heating as they are excellent heat conductors and can withstand high temperatures. However, Carreaux de ciment tiles, being thicker and cured instead of fired, are unsuitable for underfloor heating.
